Q. Can I count a Grove Fresh juice towards my 5 daily recommended portions of fruit and vegetables?
A. You certainly can. A 150ml glass of one of our juices accounts for one portion of your 5-a-day.
Q. What are the health benefits of a Grove Fresh juice?
A. As well as being naturally low in fat, our juices are a good source for a range of naturally occurring micronutrients, including numerous vitamins, minerals that contribute towards good health. They also contain phytonutrients – naturally occurring compounds found in plant foods that has properties that some researchers have found to help fight and prevent diseases.
Q. Is organic fruit juice better for you than non-organic?
A. There are all kinds of published studies and researches looking into the health benefits of organic crops vs non-organic ones, and many differences have been found in the nutrient content between the two.
Chiefly, what has emerged is that drinks containing added sugars tend to be nutrient deficient since they contain empty calories in the form of sugar but little else in the form of vitamins and minerals. Drinks made from non-organic ingredients are also lower in antioxidants and vitamins C and E, as well as phytonutrients such as Quercetin (known to have potent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits).
Q. What is in Grove Fresh Juice?
A. All the juices in the Grove Fresh range are made entirely from 100% organic fruit and vegetables, with no additives. This means they contain only natural sugars, plus a vast array of other nutrients which make the juices ‘nutrient dense’.
Q. What is fat and calorie content of organic juices?
A. All the Grove Fresh products are naturally low in fat and, whilst the calorie content of our juices varies depending on the recipe, they tend to be just 48 kcals per 100ml for our juices.
Q. Can organic fruit juice help with health problems and conditions?
A. More and more health conscious people ate switching to organic for a number of health reasons such as the increased nutrient content and absence of artificial additives in organic juice.
In terms of specific health problems, there is a lot of evidence to suggest that the health properties of organic produce can have a positive impact – for example organic fruit and vegetables contain higher levels of phenolics which means they’re rich in the antioxidants needed to help prevent and fight cancer and heart disease.
About Caring for the Environment | Please click on your selected question for the answer
Q. Where does the fruit for Grove Fresh juices come from?
A. Grove Fresh is keen to source the best quality, freshest organic fruit for its organic juices. This often means identifying the best organic ‘hotspots’ where land has been free from pesticide contamination for many years.
But because there’s not enough fruit available in the UK, it’s difficult to source from UK-based suppliers, however Grove Fresh is keen that any transportation methods are environmentally-friendly i.e. by land and sea and not by air freight.
A good example of Grove Fresh’s sourcing of fruit is in parts of Eastern Europe where our support means that the fruit has less distance to travel, while the lands remain free from artificial pesticides, allowing traditional organic farming methods to continue.
Q. Does harvesting organic fruit damage the environment?
A. All farming has a direct impact on its local environment but because organic farming practices don’t rely on artificial pesticides and chemicals they help to create a sustainable farming environment. Unlike intensive farming practices that are seen to take all they can from the land, organic farming works with the local environment through the recycling and use of animal, crop, and organic materials.
Q. What’s the impact of shipping organic fruit from overseas?
A. Grove Fresh always considers the environment when transporting their organic fruit and juice products. Sea and road are the preferred transportation methods, and no organic fruit or juice is carried by air freight.
Q. Is the Grove Fresh packaging environmentally friendly?
A. Our drinks cartons are designed to have a minimum impact on the environment. They use less fossil fuel energy in production than other forms of liquid packaging and are made principally from a renewable source, which comprises of 75-90% paper made from wood grown in sustainably managed forests.
Grove Fresh juice cartons are recyclable. You just need to be aware that, because they contain paper, polyethylene and aluminium, they cannot be recycled with normal paper waste due to the process required to separate the paper fibres.
The paper recovered from our drinks cartons has good fibre length which means it’s valuable to paper mills. The paper recovered from our recycled cartons can be used for a wide range of paper products including stationery and Christmas wrapping paper.
Q. Does Grove Fresh have an environmental policy?
A. Grove Fresh is committed to being environmentally sustainable. It has used recyclable packaging ever since it first launched and is looking into developing a policy to make sure it’s production facilities and head office reflect the Grove Fresh commitment to the environment.
Q. Is growing organic fruit good for the soil?
A. Before an existing grove can be used to grow organic fruit it must be left for a 3 year ‘period of conversion’, in which no chemical fertilisers, pesticides, herbicides or genetically modified organisms are used on it. Only then can the certifying bodies award it ‘organic status.’ Therefore growing organic fruit actually helps return the soil to it’s natural state by allowing it to become free from any trace of chemicals.
